General Statement of Duties: 

The Sterile Processing Manager is responsible for the coordination of the daily activities and personnel involved with decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, reprocessing, and sterilization of instrumentation and assembly of case carts for the operating room. This position ensures the department is meeting all regulatory requirements for the unit and monitors quality and processes within the department. The Sterile Processing Manager maintains an efficient and effective working environment, while adhering to established departmental quality and safety practices. 

Essential Duties: 

  1. Ensures the day-to-day function of the department, by being visible to the department, monitoring workflows, managing on-going activities, and adjusting assignments to assure optimum workflow. Maintains department productivity by monitoring utilization of all resources within the department.
  2. Fills in staff positions as needed. Completes tasks associated with various roles and responsibilities within the department.
  3. Ensures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis including proper operation of biological and chemical tests. Ensures that all equipment is functional and end user maintenance is complete and documented.
  4. Performs tray assemblage, proper packing, and preparation of all applicable supplies from sterilization. Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments and performs general cleaning of department service areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets, and all other storage areas.
  5. Coordinates with the educator to assist in orientation of new employees. Assesses on-going educational needs of individuals and the department, and collaborates with clinical educators.
  6. Completed performance reviews and provides input into evaluations with reference to improvements. Helps develops staff goals and objectives.
  7. Schedules staff and assists with the hiring of new staff.
  8. Maintains accurate records in compliance with State Board of Health and HFAP regulations. Retrieves data and prepared reports as needed for Quality Assurance and Risk Management.
  9. Collaborates with the Purchasing Department to order and repair instruments. Assists the Purchasing Department with clerical work related to Sterile Processing. Responsible for and oversees communicating with vendors on weekly surgery schedule.
  10. Oversees and assists in maintaining surgeon preference cards.
  11. Assists in determining capital and departmental budgetary requirements. Develops appropriate business plans and workflow processes. Completed
  12. workflow schedules to meet patient care needs and budget.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in related field required; Bachelor's degree preffered
  • Certified Surgical Technologist certification OR Register Nurse license required
  • Certified Instrument Specialist certification preferred
  • BLS certification required; must obtained within 30-days from start date
  • 1-2 years of central sterilization processing experience in a healthcare facility required; 2-4 preferred
