General Statement of Duties: 

The Spine Triage Coordinator is the main point of contact for the assigned Spine Physicians regarding the triage of patient calls and medication concerns. The position serves as the primary liaison between Physicians and patients.

This is a telephonic position. There is no direct, or face to face, contact with patients. 

Essential Duties: 

  1. Serves as main point of contact for assigned Spine Physicians, private staff, and extenders. Manages inbound calls related to medical concerns, medication concerns, medication refill requests, test results/requests, and general task messages. Monitors and schedules outbound referrals/worklist. Promptly follows-up on messages left on queue or private voicemail.
  2. Responsible for gathering complete and appropriate medical information to assist the medical staff with patient care. Eliminates unnecessary return calls/task on the part of the medical staff by following detailed protocol in collecting initial information from patients. Documents patient
    information/concerns in EMR.
  3. Follows established triage protocols (call, page, high priority task, or routine task) for each provider to determine appropriate steps to address patient concerns. Returns patient calls in a timely manner providing outstanding customer service. Monitors task messages in EMR to prioritize task and ensures patient concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  4. Supports Spine Physicians and patients with medication concerns. Identifies medications frequently ordered by Physicians and calls in or mails medications as approved by Physician to the pharmacy. Assists patients with medication refill requests.
  5. Verifies if test results, labs, medical files, and dictation are available in EMR. Obtains results as needed to ensure efficient management of patient care for everyone involved.
  6. Monitors Spine Physiatry queues and provides appointment scheduling support as needed. Assists with schedule maintenance for assigned Spine
    Physicians including assisting with rescheduling canceled clinics.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma or GED required; Specialty training beyond High School preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant license or Medial Assistant certification or Licensed Practical Nurse license preferred
  • 2-4 years of related experience required
