General Statement of Duties

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for preparing purchase orders, invoicing data processing, pricing maintenance and assisting in merchandise distribution. The Purchasing Agent obtains requirements by verifying, preparing, and forwarding purchase orders, and verifies receipt of items. The position verifies other miscellaneous surgery cases to process.

Essential Duties:

  1. Verifies miscellaneous surgery cases for all OrthoIndy Hospital locations to assure correct charges.
  2. Purchasing - Prepares, reviews, and tracks purchase orders through the purchasing process. Assures all purchase orders are signed by appropriate supervisor.
  3. Coordinates issues involving instrument room equipment. Acquires loaner equipment and mails equipment for repair, for example, cast saw and surgical equipment.
  4. Inputs changes into the purchasing system including price changes. Maintains current pricing in the system. Identifies incorrect pricing and brings it to the attention of the Manager or sales representative.
  5. Resolves Invoice Exceptions - Answers questions about invoices. Initiates calls regarding invoices. Works with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice exceptions.
  6. Prepares and files all purchasing related documentation.
  7. Assists in the distribution of merchandise.
  8. Handles vendor check-in and check-out procedures and issues.
  9. Prepares backorder report and distributes to staff.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • 1-2 years of purchase ordering experience required; 2-4 years related experience preferred.
