General Statement of Duties

The Medical Assistant is the liaison between the patient and the Physicians or their support staff. The position duties include following the patient from the time of arrival to their time of departure, and making sure all of the patient and Physician needs are met.

Essential Duties:

  1. Responsible for assisting patients from check in to check out, escorting patients to the proper location within the clinic while keeping patients informed throughout their visit of any delays. Records vitals, verifies and reconciles medications at allergies at each visit, verified pharmacy at each visit, records referring physician and the primary care physician in the EMR, and inputting x-ray orders given by the physician.
  2. Meaningful Use – Documents Meaningful use in Allscripts, including; vitals, PMH, PSH, social, medications, allergies,immunizations, falls, pharmacy, referring physicians, primary care physicians, etc. Captures 95% or higher for Meaningful Use.
  3. Runs assigned Physicians. Maintains stocking rooms and dictation areas. Areas may include exam rooms, Physician stations, closets, and any area patient’s may have access to. Restocks supplies and informs designated staff when products need ordered.
  4. Prepares schedules daily. Reviews charts prior to patient’s appointment, making sure all needed information is in chart, including; test results, referrals, lab results, etc. Takes initiative to retrieve needed information if information is missing.
  5. Aids with procedures when necessary and per instruction, including; applying basic DME’s- ASO’s, flat form boots, air cast boots, post-op shoes, hand and wrist braces, knee immobilizers, grippers, slings, removing sutures and staples, assisting with wound care and dressing, drawing injectables, etc.
  6. Inputs patient X-Rays with minimal error.
  7. Understands and successfully orders labs, UDS/Genetic testing in Allscripts.
  8. Documents injections. Completes log injection and sample medications.

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma or GED General Studies required
  • Specialty Training Beyond High School Related Field preferred
    • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
    • OR Registered Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
    • OR Certified Nursing Assistant Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment
  • BLS certification preferred
  • No prior experience necessary required; 1-2 years of experience preferred
