General Statement of Duties:

The HIM Specialist II ROI Disability Specialist is responsible for answering incoming calls and correctly completing disability forms upon request, and ensuring that they are routed appropriately. The position is also responsible for updating patients with information on Disability, FMLA, or Status Notes and processing release of medical information requests as required and facilitating communication between Physicians and patients.

Essential Duties:

  1. Completes disability, FMLA, status reports, or LOMN forms and route to appropriate location within designated productivity timeframe.
  2. Answers incoming calls to the Health Information Management Department.
  3. Communicates with physicians and patients on status of requests and forms.
  4. Documents all patient health information released in tracking system.
  5. Reports monthly stats for productivity goals.
  6. Receives and responds to requests for patient health information via email, mail, fax, or phone. Sends appropriate authorizations to requestors in order to process medical record requests.
  7. Verifies and releases medical records for urgent or STAT requests from other facilities in order to assist with continuity of care. Scans requests into patients EMR.

ADP, Advanced MD, Allscripts, Halogen, Meditech, Microsoft Office, Moxee, Cortrak, Incident reporting, Scanner

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Specialty Training beyond High School required; Associate's Degree preferred
  • 2-4 years of HIM experience required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required
