Position Summary: 

The Director of Research plans, organizes, and directs all orthopaedic research activities for OrthoIndy and OrthoIndy Hospital. The Directors develops research and educational goals, prepares presentations, and coordinates the securing of grants and other fundraising opportunities.

Essential Duties:

  1. Supports the research needs of both the practice and hospital by receiving direction from the Orthopaedic Research Foundation Board and the OrthoIndy Hospital Institutional Review Board.
  2. Develops educational and research goals and objectives for OrthoIndy and OrthoIndy Hospital. Prepares research and educational presentations for delivery.
  3. Establishes departmental operating procedures. Maintains necessary records, reports, and statistics.
  4. Coordinates the securing of grants. Manages the financial reconciliation of all existing grants and funding.
  5. Identifies new fundraising opportunities, cultivates existing relationships with research partners, and develops new partnerships.
  6. Oversees all research activities for the practice and hospital, including communication with research and educational sponsors.
  7. Oversees research and individual physician studies.
  8. Manages and integrates various functions of the departments including employment, staff performance and disciplinary reviews, and training and development needs. Evaluates performance of staff to ensure quality of service and technical expertise.
  9. Attends a variety of administration and committee meetings to make policy decisions and identify and see solutions to complex problems.
  10. Develops and recommends department operating budgets. Ensures that departments operate within allocation of funds.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field required; Master's in a related field preferred
  • 4-6 years of clinical research experience required; 6-8 years preferred; management experience preferred
  • Association of Clinical Research Professional certification OR Society of Clinical Research Associates' certification required
